Population Notes

YEMEN. The average woman in Yemen can be expected to have 7 children during her lifetime. If birth rates stay the same for the next three generations, the typical Yemeni woman will have -
* 7 children
* 49 grandchildren
* 343 great-grandchildren
* 2,500 great-great grandchildren

EUROPE. The average family size in many parts of Europe, however, is barely more than one child. A European woman will have -
* 1 child
* 1 grandchild
* 1-2 great grandchildren
* 2-3 great-great grandchildren

The Yemeni woman - as well as women in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Somalia and scores of other countries - will have a thousand times as many offspring as the European woman.

Varying population growth rates from region to region are truly astounding. Never has a situation even remotely like this existed in all recorded history.
